About the Obsidian Mirror obsidian.
The obsidian mirror is considered the blood of Mother Earth. It is volcanic lava that, once erupted, becomes a crystal; it is energy that comes from the center of the Earth. The purpose of this solidified blood of the Earth is to help us know ourselves, unite with ourselves, and understand that the Earth has a consciousness and spirit, as do we.
With the obsidian mirror, we can perform profound introspection. We can work through meditations connecting to the elements-air, water, fire, and earth. Many myths surround the obsidian mirror; one is that it can be used to become a Nawal. Nawal were believed to have magical powers.
The word Nawal means “the power that I create/generate.”
A Nawal is a person who creates or generates their own reality and is responsible for themselves. This has nothing to do with the mythical magical being that shapeshifts into an animal. Instead, a Nawal is someone who creates their own reality and, by doing so, helps others see the reality they are creating. A Nawal possesses knowledge of themselves and creates their reality.

Embracing Your Shadow
We often seek the light side, striving to be good people, but in reality, we are not good all the time, and we don’t always have nice thoughts. Working with the Tezcatlipoca mirror or the obsidian mirror helps us get to know our dark side, accept it, embrace it, and use it for our benefit.

Accepting the Destructive Side of Our Nature
It is important to recognize that it is okay to accept the destructive side within us. Human beings are inherently destructive, but we also possess the capacity to create. From the moment we wake up, our bodies are constantly destroying thousands of viruses and bacteria to protect us. When we eat, we take lives-whether we are vegetarian or vegan. The key is to offer gratitude to the plants and animals that give their life and energy so that we may live.
To have life, we must also destroy life. This means accepting the destructive nature within ourselves, accepting who we are, and acknowledging that we sometimes have negative thoughts. Having bad thoughts does not make you a bad person. We all experience such thoughts, but acting on them and doing harm is a different matter altogether. To balance this, we can develop a practice-a way to flow with energy and transmute destructive energy into creative energy.
If you want to change, you must be willing to destroy. If you don’t like your current reality, if you don’t like the contamination in the world, or the way you are living, then guess what? We have to destroy it.
