Fasting Retreat in Nature: The Return to the Seed

e are delighted to offer our water fasting retreat at Berkeley Farm — a space where participants are invited to slow down, reconnect with nature, and explore fasting as an ancient ceremonial practice.

Held in a supportive and intentional environment, this small-group retreat offers time for introspection, emotional release, and spiritual reflection, guided by nature, community, and ancestral wisdom.

Why Fasting and Water Matter:
Fasting with water has been practised across cultures for centuries as a way to simplify, listen, and return to balance. Rather than focusing on external stimulation, fasting invites a pause — creating space for clarity, awareness, and reconnection with natural rhythms.

Within this retreat, fasting is approached as a non-medical, experiential practice. Participants often describe a sense of mental clarity, emotional lightness, and renewed perspective, supported by time in nature, ceremony, and community presence.

Water, as a living element, supports this process symbolically and practically — reminding us of flow, purification, and the importance of simplicity. Together, fasting and water become tools for reflection, grounding, and a gentle detox from modern life.

Who is this retreat for?

The Return to the Seed is for people who feel the call to step away from daily noise and return to simplicity, nature, and inner listening. This fasting retreat in nature may be for you if you are:

  • Seeking a gentle detox from modern life (non-medical) — mental clutter, stress, over-stimulation, constant busyness

  • Longing for clarity, presence, and groundedness through time in nature

  • Drawn to ancestral and ceremonial spaces held with respect, care, and community

  • Wanting to experience fasting as a conscious practice, supported by fire, ritual, and a safe container

  • Craving a reset in your relationship with food, routine, technology, and distractions

  • Interested in deep connection — with yourself, with others, and with the elements

This retreat is especially supportive for:

  • People in life transitions (new beginnings, endings, grief, change)

  • Those feeling spiritually “full” or emotionally overloaded and wanting space to simplify and listen

  • Anyone who wants to experience a guided retreat that is nature-based, community-held, and ceremony-rooted

Not sure if it’s for you?

If you feel curious but unsure, you’re welcome to message us — we can help you decide if this retreat is the right fit and what level of participation (fasting or supporting) is best for you.

Retreat Highlights:

🔥 How this retreat connects with our other ceremonial work

  • Temazcal (Sweat Lodge)

This fasting retreat is held within the wider ceremonial framework of Temazcal (sweat lodge) traditions. Opening and closing Temazcal ceremonies support participants in marking intention, release, and reintegration at the beginning and end of the fasting process.

Cacao Ceremony & Integration

A cacao ceremony may be offered as part of the integration process, supporting reconnection, emotional grounding, and shared reflection within the group.

Drumming and singing circle

Will be offered as part of the integration process, creating a shared rhythm that supports grounding, emotional expression, and reconnection with self and community after the fasting period.

Community Support & Accompaniment

One of the most important elements of this fasting retreat is community support. Each participant who chooses to fast is asked to be accompanied by someone they trust — a friend, partner, or family member — who will support them during the fasting period while they are in nature.

Participants will fast for three days, supported by a community that eats and drinks on their behalf as a symbolic offering of strength, care, and remembrance. This shared act honours the fasting process and reinforces the sense of collective holding and reciprocity.

Supporters and volunteers help hold the space through presence, food ceremonies, songs around the fire, drumming and singing circles, and shared moments of connection, creating a grounded and respectful container for the fasting journey.

The retreat culminates with nourishing food and water ceremonies, celebrating life, nature, and the return from fasting, and supporting gentle reintegration into everyday rhythms.
