Our History

Working with the Young people and communities in disadvantage.

Our Work started in South London in 2004 at a community organisation called Colombian Refugee Organisation. This youth project was called “Identities”. We use Arts as a tool to empower communities and specially their young people. The Latin American community was growthing community facing some levels poverty, destitution and their youth were finding hard to integrate in to society and keep their identity. Our aim was basically to open an space where they can have fun, learn about their culture, perform and feel proud about their cultural heritage.

Patakon

( Dance and Music project)

Through the experience with the our youth project we connected and join another youth project called Nueva Generacion (NG). This project was a Latin American collective of artists raising awareness of social issues, stimulate change and promote our culture through drama, dance, capoeira, music, arts and crafts.

Using the arts as our tool, they created a model of participatory action learning, networking on a local and international level closely working with the Latin American, London-wide and international communities.

IRMO & The Latin American Youth Forum

Our Work at the Indo-America Refugee & Migrant Organisation (IRMO) started in 2006. We created a youth project, a new initiative called “The Latin American Youth forum.

Tate Modern Group of voluntary youngsters inspired to create a better community. a community hard to reach?

The Latin American Youth Forum (LAYF) is a youth-led initiative with the aim of helping young people aged 13 to 19 to become more actively involved in their community. In addition, the project helps participants to maximise their potential and move into education, training or employment.

We work closely with Local authorities and other organisation and community projects and festivals to give our young people the opportunities to learn new skills and to become leaders in their community.

We run an events management course in partnership with Unite the Union and Carnaval del Pueblo. The Latin American Youth Forum hosted the “The young people Stage” at the Carnaval del Pueblo for two consecutive years.

This initiative brought together young people part of different gangs in London, to use art to settle their differences and stop the violence that was affecting our communities”

Music for Life UK

In 2010 funded Music for life. This is an organisation seeking to rescue, preserve and promote the cultural heritage of ethnic minority groups in London. Through music, dance and the visual arts, we seek to engage and enable young people to discover their history, contributing to a more open-minded and tolerant society.
